The seed of Crotalaria Juncea that we commercialize has its origin in Thailand, where it is used by the farmers of the country as green fertilizer since ancient times. Crotalaria Juncea is an annual herbaceous species of the Fábaceas or leguminous family, which stands out for its rapid establishment and a very short vegetative cycle, only 6-7 weeks, in which it reaches a height of 1.8 m. approximately.

 The species of Crotalaria Juncea originating in Thailand is known for being a crop with double suitability.

Green Manure

It is a species suitable for use by horticulturists either as a green manure crop or as a cover crop to provide organic matter and nitrogen in the period between the main summer and winter crops. As this plant is a leguminous plant, Crotalaria supplies its own nitrogen, and provides residual nitrogen to the next crop. By fixing atmospheric nitrogen, Crotalaria Juncea can accumulate up to 201.6 kg of nitrogen per hectare. Another aspect to point out is the incorporation of organic matter around 10 tons, a fundamental aspect not only for the importance of the organic matter itself, but also to improve the textures of the sandy soils, obtaining soils with more body so that the fertilizers and humidity are more time available for the crops to come or in strong soils, leaving the soils more hollow and not having so much compacting power.

 And lastly, another benefit it brings us is its power as a nematicide, eliminating some types of phytoparasitic nematodes in percentage terms.


Crotalaria Juncea (Thailand) gives us a quality hay, highlighting the appetite that the animals have in it.

The palatability analysed in all types of animals can be said to be very high. This is a very important aspect in small ruminants where the losses mean a very high percentage of the feeding costs of a cattle farm.

A crop that offers us hay with good percentages of protein, good percentages of fiber and an invitro digestibility of 70%.

Crotalaria Juncea can be used for hay and silage, it is not recommended for grazing.

Properly harvested hay should have green tones and a high percentage of leaf. As in other crops, the percentage of leaf has a direct link to the percentage of protein in the forage.

Crotalaria Juncea is a crop that provides us with unbeatable qualities in its green or forage fertilizer qualities. Having a vegetative cycle of 6-7 weeks is suitable for use among the main crops for the sustainable improvement of our soils or as an alternative as a second crop, given its short cycle can be sown after the main crop.
